Why now?
Measles is back. Between January and October 2025, 873 cases were reported in France — almost double the 483 cases recorded for all of 2024. Vaccination coverage for the second MMR dose reaches 92.7% at 24 months, still below the 95% threshold needed for elimination.
Unimmunised professionals in contact with children or vulnerable people represent a real transmission route. Article 55 of the LFSS 2026 addresses this by introducing a measles immunisation requirement for new entrants to the relevant sectors.
Who is affected?
The implementing decree has not yet been published (as of 13 May 2026). Provisions are expected to apply from the second half of 2026. Contact your employer or professional body for details applicable to your role.
How to prove immunity
The law refers to "immunisation" — not just vaccination. Past measles infection also counts. Three acceptable proofs:
- 2 documented MMR vaccine doses — dates in your carnet de santé or a medical attestation. The simplest route for anyone born after 1980.
- Positive serology — a blood test showing measles antibodies. An option if vaccination history is uncertain or the record is lost.
- Medical attestation of past infection — if measles was diagnosed and documented in a medical record.
What if you only have one MMR dose, or none?
- Get a serology test first — if your antibodies are positive (possible even without documented vaccination or after a past infection), you are immune. No further vaccination needed.
- Receive 1 or 2 MMR doses — if serology is negative or not performed, the doctor prescribes one or two doses. There is no risk in receiving an MMR dose if you are already immune.
Since no monovalent measles vaccine is available, the law explicitly provides for the trivalent MMR vaccine (measles-mumps-rubella), with 1 or 2 doses depending on vaccination status.
